Simón Camacho, in his 1864 book Cosas de los Estados Unidos:
"In Cuba, as far as I know, is where you can find the largest number of Cubans; but besides Cuba nowhere else are there more Cubans than on the docks of the Columbia or the Marion on sailing days. Someone said that it appears as if New York is a neighborhood of Havana, and I could not disagree."
